Murfreesboro, TN – As part of its ongoing Partners in Education initiative, The Avenue® Murfreesboro partnered with Blackman High School’s marketing department to conduct and promote THE STYLE upGRADE. Mrs. Sara Sims and Mrs. Gayle Dawson were each selected to win a makeover package valued at more than $1,000, including wardrobe, hair and makeup.
Students from the high school developed public relations tactics, promotional materials and online strategies to promote the contest. More than 50 teachers and faculty nominated themselves for THE STYLE upGRADE and the class conducted an interview process to select five teachers as finalists. Blackman High students then promoted community-wide voting to determine the two winners.
“For our students, THE STYLE upGRADE was a unique approach to obtain hands-on marketing experience while recognizing two deserving teachers,” said Gail Vick – principal, Blackman High School. “The Avenue’s support allows us to give our students opportunities to apply their skills beyond the classroom and engage the community.”
The teachers completed their makeovers on November 1, including apparel and accessories from White House | Black Market, Talbots, Victoria’s Secret and Off Broadway Shoes, and hair styling and makeup courtesy of ULTA. The transformations were revealed on November 5 at and on The Avenue Murfreesboro’s Facebook page.
“We were honored to partner Blackman High School and The Avenue retailers on THE STYLE upGRADE,” said Lindy Mullen, marketing manager of The Avenue Murfreesboro. “We enjoyed helping teachers express their inner beauty and confidence. Mrs. Sims and Mrs. Dawson can take that confidence into the classroom and continue to inspire students to be their best.”
