Atlanta, GA – East Cobb native Adam Mourdock and Meredith Murphy, a graduate of McIntosh High School in Peachtree City, won The Avenue’s Wedding Giveaway, a prize package valued at more than $15,000.  Mourdock, who attended Pope High School, is a sergeant in the U.S. Army, where he spent four years overseas as part of a voluntary deployment and is now stationed at Fort McPherson in Atlanta.  Murphy, a teacher at Fernbank Elementary School, was named Georgia’s Physical Education teacher of the year in 2009.

The couple met at an Atlanta Braves game in 2009 when Mourdock was on a two-week leave from Afghanistan.  They spent the next two years travelling around the world, including Germany, Spain, Korea and China, to visit each other, and Mourdock proposed in early 2011 upon moving back to Atlanta.  Their wedding is planned for Sept. 30, 2011.
